How it works

How Canada salary is estimated

This calculator uses 2026 Canadian federal tax brackets, selected provincial brackets, basic personal credits, Canada Employment Amount, CPP, CPP2, and EI. Ontario also includes a simplified Ontario Health Premium estimate.

Quebec is excluded because Quebec payroll uses QPP, QPIP, Quebec-specific provincial tax, and a different EI rate. Treat this as a planning calculator for Canada except Quebec.

Monthly net pay = (Gross salary - RRSP or pension - income tax - CPP - EI) / 12

FAQ

Is this Canada salary calculator official?

No. It is a planning estimate based on 2026 public tax, CPP, and EI rules. CRA payroll calculators and employer payroll systems remain authoritative.

Why is Quebec excluded?

Quebec has QPP, QPIP, provincial income tax, and a lower EI rate. Mixing Quebec into a simple Canada calculator would make the result less trustworthy.

Which provinces are included?

This version supports Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and a federal-only setting. These cover common salary-comparison cases while keeping the page easy to use.

What is CPP2?

CPP2 is the second additional Canada Pension Plan contribution on earnings between the yearly maximum pensionable earnings and the additional maximum pensionable earnings.

Does RRSP reduce taxable income?

The calculator treats the entered RRSP or pension percentage as reducing taxable income. Real payroll depends on how the contribution is deducted and reported.

Does the calculator include employer contributions?

No. Employer CPP, EI, pension match, and benefits are important for total compensation but are not deducted from employee take-home pay.

Why does Ontario show extra tax?

Ontario residents may pay the Ontario Health Premium through the tax system. The calculator includes a simplified estimate when Ontario is selected.

Does this include bonus or overtime?

For now, include predictable annual bonus or overtime in gross salary for a rough annual view. Actual payroll withholding can differ by pay period.

What credits are assumed?

The calculator assumes basic personal amounts, employment amount, and simplified credits for base CPP and EI. It does not model family, tuition, disability, medical, or donation credits.

How should newcomers use this?

Use it to compare monthly cash after payroll deductions, then separately budget rent, transit, insurance, winter costs, childcare, and emergency savings.
