FAQ
Is this Switzerland calculator official?
No. Swiss tax is highly local. Use the Swiss Federal Tax Administration calculator or canton withholding tables for official planning.
Why does canton matter?
Federal, cantonal, and communal taxes differ by location. Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Vaud, and Zug can produce very different net pay.
What is AHV/IV/EO?
These are Swiss social security contributions for old age, survivors, disability, and income compensation. Employees pay a share through payroll.
What is ALV?
ALV is unemployment insurance. Employee contributions apply up to the annual salary ceiling used in Swiss social insurance rules.
Why is pension fund an input?
Occupational pension deductions depend on age, insured salary, plan design, and employer. A manual rate gives users a practical estimate.
Does this include health insurance?
No. Swiss health insurance premiums are usually paid separately, not deducted as normal salary withholding.
What about 13th salary?
The result is annual net divided by 12. If your employer pays a 13th salary, monthly cash flow can be distributed differently.
Who pays withholding tax?
Many foreign workers without a C permit are taxed at source. Swiss citizens and some residents may use ordinary assessment instead.
Can expats use this?
Yes for a quick relocation estimate. Exact results need permit status, canton, commune, religion, marital status, children, and pension details.
How should I compare Swiss offers?
Compare net pay after pension, then separately budget rent, mandatory health insurance, transport, childcare, and high living costs.
