FAQ

How much home loan EMI is safe for salaried people?

Many salaried households try to keep total EMIs within 30% to 40% of monthly take-home salary. A lower EMI is safer if you have dependents, variable income, or other goals.

Should I calculate home affordability from CTC or in-hand salary?

Use in-hand salary because EMIs are paid from actual monthly cash flow. CTC can include bonus, employer contributions, and benefits that may not be available every month.

How much down payment should I plan before buying a house?

Most buyers should plan at least 20% of the property value as down payment. Also keep extra money for registration, stamp duty, interiors, brokerage, and moving costs.

Why is my affordable home value lower than bank eligibility?

Banks may approve a higher loan based on income, but that does not always mean it is comfortable. This calculator focuses on salary safety, not maximum borrowing.

Should existing EMIs be included?

Yes. Existing car loans, personal loans, and credit card EMIs reduce the safe room available for a home loan. Ignoring them can make the monthly budget too tight.

How does interest rate affect home affordability?

A higher interest rate increases EMI for the same loan amount. Even a small rate change can reduce your affordable home budget, especially on long-tenure loans.

Is a longer home loan tenure always better?

A longer tenure lowers EMI but increases total interest paid. It can help with monthly comfort, but prepayments may be needed later to reduce interest burden.

What costs are not included in home value?

Registration, stamp duty, interiors, maintenance deposit, parking, shifting, and emergency buffer should be planned separately. These can add a meaningful amount beyond the property price.
