Why pickup distance matters

Judge a ride by profit and time, not only its displayed fare

A fare can look reasonable until unpaid pickup kilometres, waiting time, fuel, maintenance, platform charges, and a low-demand destination are considered. This calculator allocates a share of any daily subscription fee across expected rides and counts pickup plus post-trip dead distance.

The verdict compares estimated net hourly income with the target you enter. It is not an instruction to accept or reject a booking and cannot account for safety, traffic incidents, cancellations, or future demand.

Ride profit = fare + bonus + tip - commission - subscription share - fuel - maintenance - toll or parking

FAQ

What does 'should I accept this ride' mean here?

It means whether the entered ride appears to meet your chosen financial target. It is not operational, legal, or safety advice.

Why does pickup distance reduce profit?

Pickup travel uses fuel, maintenance, and time before the paid trip begins. A long pickup can turn an otherwise acceptable fare into a weak hourly return.

What is post-trip dead distance?

It is an estimate of unpaid travel after drop-off, such as returning to a demand area or moving away from an unsuitable destination.

How is a daily subscription assigned to one ride?

The calculator divides the daily fee by your expected rides that day. Completing fewer rides makes the fee per ride larger.

What if my account charges commission instead?

Enter the percentage commission and set daily subscription to zero. If both apply to your actual statement, enter both.

What should I use as my target hourly income?

Choose a personal target that reflects your required take-home and working conditions. It should be net of the running costs included here.

Does the calculator include waiting time?

Yes. Add expected pickup and waiting minutes to the pickup-time field, then enter the estimated paid-trip time separately.

Why reserve maintenance on every ride?

Tyres, brakes, servicing, oil, punctures, and depreciation do not arrive as a bill on every trip, but every kilometre contributes to future wear.

Can cab and auto drivers use this?

Yes. Replace mileage, fuel price, maintenance, platform charges, distances, and target hourly income with values appropriate to that vehicle.

Is the verdict guaranteed to match actual profit?

No. Actual fare adjustments, cancellations, surge, traffic, route changes, incentives, fuel consumption, and downtime can change the outcome.
