How it works

How Malaysia salary is estimated

The calculator annualizes monthly salary, adds bonus, estimates employee EPF, applies basic resident relief and EPF relief, then uses Malaysian resident income tax bands. Non-resident mode uses a flat tax estimate.

SOCSO and EIS are shown as a simplified capped estimate for planning. Official PERKESO tables use contribution bands, so payslip amounts can differ by a few ringgit.

Monthly net pay = (Annual gross - EPF - SOCSO/EIS - income tax) / 12

FAQ

Is this Malaysia calculator the official PCB calculator?

No. It is a PCB-style planning estimate. HASiL’s official PCB calculator and employer payroll software are authoritative for monthly withholding.

What does PCB mean?

PCB, also called MTD, is Malaysia’s monthly tax deduction system where employers deduct income tax from salary during the year.

What EPF rate is assumed?

The default employee EPF rate is 11%. You can switch to 9% or no EPF for scenario planning, depending on your actual eligibility and election.

Does EPF reduce taxable income?

The calculator applies EPF relief capped at RM4,000 for resident estimates. Actual relief can depend on the latest tax year rules and personal filing position.

How are SOCSO and EIS estimated?

They are estimated using a wage ceiling and simplified employee percentages. PERKESO uses official contribution schedules, so exact payroll deductions may vary.

How are non-residents taxed?

Non-resident employment income is estimated at a flat 30% tax rate in this calculator. Resident reliefs are not applied in non-resident mode.

Does annual bonus affect tax?

Yes. Bonus increases annual gross income and can move part of income into a higher marginal band, even when monthly salary looks comfortable.

Are employer EPF contributions included?

No. Employer EPF is part of total employment value, but it is not spendable monthly take-home pay.

Why can payroll PCB differ from this page?

Payroll may use year-to-date income, TP1 reliefs, zakat, prior employer information, benefits in kind, and official computerised PCB formulas.

How should employees use this estimate?

Use monthly net salary for rent, transport, family support, debt, insurance, and savings planning. Recheck your payslip once actual payroll starts.
