How it works

How Indonesian net salary is estimated

The calculator uses an annual PPh 21-style flow: gross salary plus THR or bonus, less job cost, employee social contributions, other deductions, and PTKP before progressive tax bands.

Indonesia payroll can be affected by employer benefit structure, exact BPJS salary classes, tax identification status, and annualization method. Use this for salary offer comparison and budget planning.

Taxable income = Gross annual income - job cost - employee BPJS/JHT/JP - other deductions - PTKP
Monthly net pay = (Gross annual income - employee social contributions - other deductions - PPh 21 tax) / 12

FAQ

What is PPh 21?

PPh 21 is Indonesian employee income tax withheld on salary, wages, bonuses, allowances, and similar employment income. Employers usually calculate withholding during payroll.

What PTKP amount is used?

The calculator starts with Rp54 million for the taxpayer, adds Rp4.5 million for married status, and adds Rp4.5 million per dependent up to three dependents.

What is job cost or biaya jabatan?

Job cost is a deduction for employees before calculating taxable income. This calculator estimates it at 5% of gross employment income capped at Rp6 million per year.

Does this include THR?

Yes. Enter THR or annual bonus in the bonus field. It increases annual gross income and can increase PPh 21.

How are BPJS and pension contributions estimated?

The calculator uses simplified employee deductions for JHT, JP, and BPJS Kesehatan with wage caps. Exact payroll may use official salary classes and employer-specific treatment.

Why does family status matter?

Family status changes PTKP, which reduces taxable income. A married employee or an employee with qualifying dependents can have a lower taxable base.

Does NPWP status affect the estimate?

This version does not apply a no-NPWP penalty or special employee categories. It assumes a regular resident employee with standard identification and payroll treatment.

Can expatriates use this calculator?

Expatriates can use it for a rough resident employee estimate. Residency, tax equalization, allowances, and employer-paid benefits may require professional payroll review.

Why is monthly net averaged?

Annual bonus and annual tax are spread across 12 months to show average monthly cash. Actual monthly pay can jump in THR or bonus months.

How should I use this for a Jakarta job offer?

Compare net salary with rent, transport, insurance, food, family support, and savings targets. A high gross salary can still feel tight if housing or commute costs are large.
