FAQ

Is this New Zealand salary calculator official?

No. It is an estimate for planning. Inland Revenue PAYE calculators and employer payroll remain the source of truth.

What PAYE rates are used?

It uses the progressive individual income tax rates applying from 1 April 2025: 10.5%, 17.5%, 30%, 33%, and 39% bands.

What is the ACC earners levy?

ACC earners levy is deducted with PAYE to fund non-work injury cover. The calculator applies the 2026/27 rate up to the annual earnings cap.

Which KiwiSaver rate should I choose?

Select the rate you have chosen with your employer. The default shown is 3.5%, with 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% available.

Does KiwiSaver reduce tax?

Employee KiwiSaver is deducted from pay but generally does not reduce income tax in the simple way a pre-tax deduction might in some countries.

Is employer KiwiSaver included?

No. Employer contributions are not part of cash take-home pay, so this page focuses on employee deductions and net salary.

How is student loan repayment estimated?

When enabled, the calculator applies a simplified annual repayment above the student-loan threshold. Real payroll is pay-period based.

Can I use monthly salary?

Yes. Select monthly salary and the calculator annualizes it before estimating yearly deductions and average monthly net pay.

Does it handle secondary tax codes?

No. This page is for a main employment salary estimate. Secondary tax codes, tailored tax codes, child support, and benefits need a separate model.

How should migrants use this estimate?

Use the monthly net result for rent and savings planning, then separately check visa costs, insurance, transport, and relocation expenses.
